The rooms are small, as they are in most historic hotels. People did not construct the huge chambers that we do today. Remember that the hotel did not have air conditioning when it was built. You didn’t want to be stuck indoors during the day. You don’t want to stay in Limpia West if you want to stay in the historic hotel. The Limpia West rooms are located across the street, above the gift stores, rather than in the main structure. According to our knowledge, the hotel operates them as “budget” rooms, which are slightly less expensive.

Tarpon Inn – Port Aransas

The Tarpon Inn was constructed in 1886 with leftover lumber from Civil War barracks. It was originally used to house workers for the Mansfield Jetty (the south jetty for Aransas Pass). After the jetty was finished, the building was converted into a hotel and has remained thus ever since. The architecture of the Tarpon is typical of tropical seaside structures. It was planned and built for comfort in the Texas Coastal Bend’s bright, humid climate.
